Put your trust in The Virgin Islands Standpoint; The community newspaper, which has over 40,000 hits weekly, a circulation of 8,000 printed copies and with over 13 years in the industry. We provide “News with Integrity” and our website will help connect your company to the rest of the world.
The Virgin Islands StandPoint is the successor to the BVI PennySaver, which was a weekly publication that was founded in October 1997. The PennySaver quickly became highly sought after because of its community-oriented style. In February 2001, the name was changed to The BVI StandPoint. With this change, we increased the local news section, added regional news, changed our layout and design, launched a website, offered more colour and expanded our entertainment and sports sections.
Since the launch of the StandPoint, we have continued to add more sections, cover more stories and provide more content for readers. Every week over 16,000 people collectively between the US and Virgin Islands (UK) read The Virgin Islands StandPoint, the community newspaper. The VI StandPoint Newspaper provides readers with up-to-date news and information on what is happening in the House of Assembly, in the local courts or on the streets. We pride ourselves on featuring our local people each week on what they are doing whether in business, entertainment, sports, religion, farming or academics. So whether it is total island coverage or to target the primary catchment area for your business - The VI StandPoint Newspaper will reach your target market quickly, effectively and with quality. In short, everyone reads the VI StandPoint Newspaper.
We revamped our website in June of 2011 where there is a substantial gap in the online news market for fair and balance news reporting. With all the online news sites trying to break ‘breaking news’ there is room - in fact, a desperate need - for an online, heavyweight publication committed to quality journalism. The Virgin Islands needs an intelligent title that uses the internet, not fights against it.
I am proud and pleased to introduce you to www.vistandpoint.com the portal for up to the times coverage and reporting whose motto is ‘News with Integrity’ while being one step ahead as far as news about the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean and any other that is relevant to our readers is concerned.
VI StandPoint online paper will cover politics, foreign affairs, health, and business and continue to shine the spotlight on residents, entertainment, sports and the outdoors. It will also feature a heritage section with stories about Virgin Islands history and culture.
Breaking news will not be the main focus; rather we favour and will offer more analytical reporting. More topics will be added, such as education and the environment. And there are plans to publish all our special supplements and magazines such as Black History, Child Abuse, VI Wedding Guide, Hurricane Guide, Festival Forever, Holiday Cheers and more with the best online pieces and featured articles written for the print publication.
On the site, the best commenters will be tangibly rewarded, a strategy which aims to tackle the problem we face in the territory of offensive reader comments. VI Standpoint online will continue to monitor all comments before posting as it is our aim to maintaining integrity on the site and for the Territory as a whole. We recognize that this practice will not be highly favoured, especially at a time when gossip and irresponsible journalism has become the norm, but will stick to our motto which states, “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
You will note there is a video component which we are poised to fill with materials that are relevant and what you have been craving for in terms of local video clips.
The question has been asked, “Will the launch of an online-only daily reinvigorate reporting in the Territory, or will it be bad news for newspapers?” With the VI StandPoint offering a daily online site it is a compliment to the weekly newspaper which will position itself to recap more in dept all weekly events.
