The sand, music, food and 2008 all collided on the beaches of Trellis Bay , setting off a frenzy atmosphere among free-spirited and fun loving revelers who were unhooked from the formalities of greeting a new year in a tuxedo or an old year’s night gown surrounded by family.

The late Leslie “ Lecco ” deCastro
The first annual Fungi Fest paid tribute to the late Leslie deCastro, also known as “ Lecco ”, a BVIslander who had given years to culture on the island and spent his last days trying to revive the fast eroding Fungi and Steelband music.

First prizewinner, Sharon Balkissoon relaxes on her new bed
Three grocery shoppers walked away with prizes during the Onemart’s “Customer Christmas Giveaway” promotion. Trinidadian Sharon Balkissoon who is an employee of Medicure, won the first prize.Her prize of an Ashley six-piece bedroom set included a queen sleigh bed, two night stands, dresser, mirror and mattress.

The Lashing Dogs
The atmosphere was ripe for sweet, sweet, sweet Fungi music- two nights of mostly clear skies and fantastic moonlight, but the support was bleak for the first annual VI Fungi Fest, a clear indication that more work is needed to rekindle the glory days of the local art form.
