ImageDon’t bore her because she may just call you “Mr. Boring Flex’. Yes she’s that bold!!  Up and coming singer Jessica ‘Jalena’ Mikoleiczik latest soca single has been creating waves in the United Kingdom , Canada and in St. Vincent .

Virgin Vybes caught up with the singer recently for a tête-à-tête on her latest projects.

“Mr. Boring Flex”, she stated, is exactly what the song says – a boring man will not be able to handle her. “It’s a bit risqué,” she admitted with a laugh. “But that’s life.”

Written by ‘Problem Child’ – a Vincentian soca artiste who is featured in the song, and produced by Fryktion another Vincentian. Jalena told Virgin Vybes the experience was quite interesting: “Actually ‘Problem Child’ wrote the song specifically for me and I flew to New York and did the recording in August late last year.”

Since committing to a full-time singing career a few years ago, Jalena has steadily been turning heads with her saucy lyrics and who could resist that ‘wine’?

Virgin Vybes could not resist asking her about her tantalising moves and what many of her fans call– the wicked wine.

Grinning Jalena revealed that while on vacation in Germany [her parents are Germans, but Jalena was born in the BVI] after leaving High School in Miami she became fascinated with soca.

“While in Germany I was bored because I did not know the language, the culture and I did not have any friends. So what I used to do was either read a book or listen and dance to soca music. That’s the best way that I could describe the way for me knowing how to move,” Jalena said with a blush.

Upon her return to the US , a deeper appreciation for soca music was felt.

However, it was a concert in St. Thomas that motivated her to try her hand at singing.

She recalled seeing the band ‘Silk’; singer J’son – whom she had a high school crush on and Monica, a US singer, all who made an impression on her decision to sing.

Determined to make it, this singing sensation confessed that she could not sing to that standard, but with the assistance from a voice coach she was able to fulfill her passion and is now living the dream.

However, Jalena expressed candidly that Tortola ’s public doesn’t support their own.

“I usually go to St. Vincent and get booked out, but here in Tortola that is not the case,” she pointed out.

And off she goes to SVG on Sunday where she will be recording another song and performing at several shows.

Although she is currently singing soca, Jalena sees herself ‘dabbling’ with some Reggae in the near future. “I just want to expand and explore new things, that’s my motto, aim high to succeed,” she said.
