A well-planned bathroom will take more design time than any room in the house other than the kitchen. A lot gets packed into the bathroom: oddly shaped fixtures, lots of plumbing, specialty electrical equipment, cabinetry, a door or two, and possibly windows or skylights -- or both. And it all has to go into a relatively small space.

Along with the floor plan, other design decisions involve questions about ventilation, moisture evacuation and heating. And you'll have to make choices about a shower, a tub, a toilet, possibly tile, and at least one sink. The list goes on and on.

In this special collection from the pages of Fine Homebuilding, we give you what you'll need to plan a perfect bathroom. We've also included articles on six cool bathrooms to inspire your design and to showcase some fine craftsmanship. Fit and finish are extremely important in a bathroom due to the fact that while the audience is usually small, they tend to be discerning as they sit with nothing to do but look around the little room (or maybe read a magazine).
