ImageMothering twins, being an entrepreneur and working for the past 13 years with the Ministry of Finance, is quite unusual for a 35 year-old woman. Dorea Corea, Managing Director of Speed Clean coin laundry in Baughers Bay , has been doing “laundry with a difference”, for the past six years and is still having thoughts of taking her Laundromat to another level.

“My ultimate goal is to have a chain-store throughout the Caribbean and in the next five years, we are hoping to have two more laundry here,” Corea revealed.

Speed Clean Coin Laundry is a local, family owned business that loves doing laundry while caring about its customers.

The Laundromat operates a modern, self service and drop off laundry center, with over 50 pieces of equipment available for your use.

The dream of Speed Clean Coin Laundry started sometime in 2000 based on Corea’s experiences from frequenting different Laundromats, only to be dissatisfied most of the time.

“ When it wasn’t too congested or too hot, the wait to get a machine was long; or while drying you had to wait in your car, and don’t talk about just getting there… the accessibility (staircase) to and from was just a burden to get your laundry there,” she added.

The Coin Laundry boasts and is equipped with the finest, most modern, and efficient Speed Queen equipment that will save you time and provide you with a professional wash.

They also feature 38 Single ($2.00), three Double ($2.50) and three Triple-Load ($3.50) Washers and 19 Stacked Dryers ($0.25 per 5 minutes); all of which are coin-operated. Assigned washers and dryers are also available for washing babies’ clothes (age 0-18 months)

For your convenience they also have detergent, laundry bags, snacks and drinks vending machines and a coin changing machine. For your comfort, the Laundromat is air-conditioned and outfitted with laundry baskets, folding tables, seating and television.

Corea added that all equipment is regularly maintained and serviced by her trained staff to protect their customers’ clothes and prevent equipment down time.

“All Laundry Attendants are professionally trained to provide optimal clothes care, friendly assistance and service.  For customers who have special needs we can use a customer’s detergent on request,” she said.

Corea, who is also a member of the Coin Laundry Association attended two Clean Shows within the last six years and has been professionally trained in the maintenance of Speed Queen equipment.

“To remain at the cutting edge of the Laundry Profession and Industry, I am devoted to self-development. To say the least in order to stay in business, you have to know the business,” she added smiling.

This dream became a reality with the inspiration of her father Winfred Maduro, the assistance of her brother Derick Maduro, the encouragement of her husband Derick Corea and the dedication of siblings Terry and Nerida Maduro.

Having birth out of entrepreneurial parents, and six other siblings, all who were taught such entrepreneurial skills and all with different talents, this was not another hopeless dream. And with the determination to succeed all forces were put in swing.

“I must say it took a lot of persistence and enthusiasm,” said the business woman.

Born on the island of Tortola , the sixth of seven children, Corea received primary education in the British Virgin Islands , but then moved to the US Virgin Islands where she completed her secondary and tertiary education. Upon completion, she returned to the British Virgin Islands and worked with her mother at the D&D Pre-school and Learning Center .

One year later she gained employment with the Government of the Virgin Islands as an Assistant Internal Auditor. She is now the Deputy Director of Internal Audit.

Having started school at the tender age of three and completing secondary school by the inexperienced age of 15 was but a mere indication of her progressiveness and potential towards becoming successful.

The establishment of Speed Clean Coin Laundry is a true manifestation of that achievement.
