In a planned island-wide operation over the weekend, members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force arrested several persons for unlawful possession of drugs and in the process recovered a 9mm hand gun. During the operation, five persons including a 16-year-old, all of whom had cannabis in their possession were apprehended by police. In addition, a hand gun with four rounds of ammunition was recovered in the Purcell Estate area. At the time, no one was in possession of the hand gun.

Investigation is now ongoing to determine whether the gun was used in any of the recent unsolved cases.

Inspector Calvin James of the Anti-Drug and Violent Task Force reminds the public that anyone found in illegal possession of a firearm will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law whether it be on their person or on their property.

Of those arrested, Akeem Sebastian pleaded guilty to the drug offence along with several other offences including driving without driver’s license and using an uninsured motor vehicle and he was fined a total of $1,800. No money was paid so he is being detained.

Jeremy Smith of East End, Kyle Frank and Se-Antroy Hanley both of Purcell Estate were among the others arrested. Matters in these cases were adjourned.
