Digicel’s Country Manager Alan Bates presents the cheque to Rockuel Grant, Secretary of the All Stars Netball Club, during a brief ceremony at Digicel BVI’s corporate offices.Digicel, the dynamic Caribbean mobile operator set to launch in BVI this year, on Monday donated $2,000 to the All Stars Netball Club towards its hosting of the 3rd Annual Regional Netball Tournament from June 27-29, 2008.

In its first such gesture, Digicel’s Country Manager Alan Bates presented the cheque to Rockuel Grant, Secretary of the All Stars Netball Club, during a brief ceremony at Digicel BVI’s corporate offices.

“Digicel is very excited to be entering this market and look forward to forging excellent relationships with the people of BVI,” said Bates. “As well as creating local employment, Digicel BVI also plans to become very involved in a range of sponsorships, as well as social and community initiatives.  We are delighted to support this, our first event this weekend, and would like to wish the All Stars Netball Club the very best of luck.”

In accepting the donation, Grant expressed her appreciation to Digicel for its generosity. “We want to wish Digicel success with its launch in the BVI and hope that this will be a very lucrative market for the company,” she said.

The tournament, which will be played at the Road Town Recreation Grounds, will feature one team each from Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica, Nevis and St. Lucia, and three local teams. The public is invited to attend the games, which begin with an opening ceremony on Friday at 6pm. The other games will be played on Saturday and Sunday starting at 5:30pm each day.

Digicel was awarded a GSM license in BVI in December 2007 and the company is set to launch its 24th market later this year. Digicel looks forward to maximizing growth opportunities in BVI and has earmarked US$15 million as its initial investment to build a state-of-the-art network offering close to 100% population coverage.

Digicel Group recently recorded 6.5 million customers across the entire Caribbean and Central America. The company has invested more than US$2 billion in rolling out state-of-the-art networks offering the best value and best choice amongst it competition.
