Despite brief early morning rains, Cavaliers won the toss and elected to bat in blissful sunshine and found themselves in early trouble before a 72-run third wicket partnership between man of the match, Vishal Bharrat and Dorian Auguiste, both of whom scored 63 runs, steered them back on course. Auguiste was let off the hook when he was dropped by Monty Buttler with the score on 90 for 1 in the 9th over. After Bharrat departed, Cavaliers struggled to get on top of the Vincy bowling and managed a few singles in the middle overs as key wickets of Auguiste and Keith Semple tumbled, before a late surge pushed the score to 193 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Bharrat and Auguiste each struck 7 fours and 3 sixes in their innings, while Kwesi Sinclair supported with 16. Lennox Samuel was the pick of the Vincy bowlers with 2 for 30.
Shelford Peters scored 29 (4 fours, 2 sixes), Bront DeFreitas 27 (3 fours, 1 six), and Kendrik Leslie 22 (1 four, 1 six). Vijay Jhappan led the bowling charge for Cavaliers with 3 for 21, including the wicket of the dangerous Samuel in the second ball of the Vincy inning. Keith Semple and Jagnarine Persaud supported with 1 for 20 each. Bharrat also contributed with the ball and finished with 1 for 32. We got a little less than we thought we would have gotten after the start we got, but our bowlers and fielders gave us an excellent start in the field. We put them under early pressure and we were able to hold them off, said Cavaliers wicketkeeper/captain, Daniel Singh. We figured that the total was gettable for Vincy and we realized that we could have lost the match if we had not put them under pressure. They are a good team, we are teammates together on the BVI national team, but we would love to play the Vincy team anytime, Singh added. DeFreitas said that his team was pegged back after loosing opening batsman Lennox Samuel. It is unfortunate that today was not our day, the Cavaliers stuck to their game they trained hard and they came out and outplayed us, DeFreitas noted. He said that his team will learn from their mistakes, adding that the senior players will need to step up if they are going to be successful in the future. Comments (0)
