While you may have seen, read and analyzed a lot of strong-rumors, criticism, negativities about Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and some of its members, as a serving member of Her Majestys Royal Virgin Islands Police force, I can tell you, being an officer of the law, is the best career a young man/woman would want to take up. I call on BVIslanders to be part of that. But everyone must participate. This is our country; lets protect it. Dont look at the boss or supervisor, look at yourself. You see, the Elite men and women of Her Majestys Force, want to serve you the public. And those who serve with pride, dignity and courage, really dont have time to think about money, promotion and overtime. The true loyal Officers are concern about your safety, your childrens safety and your property. Look we go into the schools and identified a few good men and women (boys & girls) who are to be transformed into well disciplined Cadet Officers. They are happy to be part of us, and soon we will go into the Ghettoes: not to arrest those who hang out there, but to take them to Road Town Police Station, where they will be mentally purged to become officers of the law! Anyone can be a Police Officer; dont misinterpret, but it takes courage, (respect for others) respect for authority and discipline, to be an Officer of the law. In every organization, there will be problems; but most of those problems are solvable; or can be kept in your backyard away from the neighbors view and hearing. Unity in a family is the nucleus for togetherness, and so is a community and organization such as the Royal Virgin islands Police Force. You may feel happy pulling down your fellow men because of anger for not being rewarded, but is one thing I realize, criticism, should make a man stronger. The same men you pull down or ill-treat today, maybe the one to help you tomorrow (you never know). I hope the Royal Virgin islands Police Force can be given a column in the News paper where we can educate the public of their rights under the Constitution, The Immigration Ordinance and other laws, enforced by the Police. Citizens, residents and visitors have rights; and these rights must be respected. These rights should not be violated under no circumstances. The badge and the uniform worn by the Police are symbols of authority, but the law is the power. For the physical authority, physical strength should be reserved. Lets not forget that when a crime is committed, it is committed against the state (the offender breaks the law) of the land, therefore, the enforcers of the law should hold no personal vendetta against the law-breakers. Let justice take its course in due process. Just do your job! Because we love this job!
