The BVI Cricket Association has named 24 players to commence training for the national team, from which a 13-man squad will be selected to represent the territory in the annual Leeward Islands tournament.

This year, the BVI will be playing in the tournament as an independent team, rather than combining with the USVI as the Combined Virgin Islands.

President of the association Mr. A. O. Shirley said the recently-completed 20-20 domestic league has brought out a number of players who can now compete for selection at the national team level.

The players named are Johnny Bailey, Timon Robinson, Bryan Daley, Daniel Singh, Dennisford Browne, Jason Burton, Selwyn Hamilton, Bront DeFreitas, Trent Belfon, Sheldon John, Maxford Pipe, Lennox Sammuel, Vishal Bharat, Neil Niles, Ivan Clarke, Travis Jack, Keith Semple, Kwesi Sinclair, Dorian Auguiste, Vijay Jhappan, Shem Stay, Keelan Robin, Shelford Peters and Austin McDowell.

The team will be meeting for practice on Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on both days at the Greenland Ground in East End.

The Leeward Islands Cricket Association tournament will be held during the months of July and August.
