Junior national players will be looking to improve on their performance ahead of the FIBA Jr tournament in August following a 75 -69 loss to St. Thomas’ Zero Tolerance last Saturday at the Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Zero Tolerance led after three quarters 54-43, but the national team sneaked back into the game early in the fourth quarter, but would let up in the final two minutes despite outscoring their opponents 26-21 in the final quarter.

Led by Merwin Potter Jr and Deshaun Halliday, each with 16 points, Zero Tolerance spread their offence throughout their line-up and had five players in double figures. Iron Young had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks to lead the local team and was supported by Dion Edwin, who dropped in 17 points, 2 rebounds and a game high, 11 steals.

This is the first time they ever played together as a team and they didn’t play the kind of ball that I was expecting them to play. They shot terrible from the line, but it will take some time before they start playing together as a team,” said Jr national coach, Brian “Bash’ Brewley.

It has been over three years since the territory fielded a Jr national team at a major tournament.

“We have a lot of work to do between now and August to get this group of players ready for the FIBA tournament in Santo Domingo. If we could get in some scrimmage games, it would mean a lot for team…between now and august we will be working on a lot of skills and a lot of defensive drills,” Brewley stated.
