Two men were shot and killed last evening while sitting in front of the Big Ben’s Superette when a lone unmasked gunman unleashed a barrage of bullets sometime around 10 p.m. in what police sources said may have been a planned hit. The double homicide pushes the number of persons murdered this year to four.

The Standpoint understands that one of the men killed is a BVIslander who is popularly known as “Sonny” and who was apparently waiting to take his mother home. His mother works at Big Ben’s.

The other man killed is Winston “Bequia” Olevia, a St. Vincent National residing in the BVI, relatives revealed.

According to sources, a vehicle pulled up at the location and dropped off the gunman who whipped out a hand gun and discharged several rounds at “Sonny”.

Sources said that the gunman then proceeded to shoot Winston Olevia who was sitting in the passenger side of “Sonny’s” vehicle drinking a beer. The gunman then kicked him out onto the road before making good his escape in the said vehicle.

Police later recovered the vehicle further up along the highway close to the Jolly Roger Inn.

Olevia died on the spot, while “Sonny” was rushed to Peeble’s Hospital where he later died.

When the StandPoint arrived on the scene, police had cordoned off the area, as several curious onlookers and family members gathered to get a glimpse of Olevia’s body, which was covered with a sheet and still on the scene.

At the hospital, “Sonny’s” relatives were seen consoling each other. Police has not yet released any details of the shooting, but has promised to do so later today.
