Relocation of Tourist Board a welcomed move

The proposed move of the Tourist Board to the police station on Georges Plaza is a great idea! Not only is it more accessible to the visitors coming from the ferry, but is also anchors the area of historic

Main Street

as a tourist destination. This is very important considering that old main street is in danger of being encroached on by huge 6-7 story concrete boxes which ruin the character and history of this important area.

Main Street

is the keeper of Tortola's living, history and genealogy through family homes and businesses, and heritage.

People don't come to see imposing buildings they come to experience culture in person. Old pictures of what used to be will not bring people in. Most guide books of the Caribbean mention Main Street as the only interesting destination in Road Town and is a must see "before it disappears". Hopefully, the Tourist Board move will draw attention to the importance of this area to the tourist economy of the Territory. Next move is to make

Main Street

a pedestrian walking mall with no cars except for early deliveries. And then make the old historic post office a boutique hotel drawing active night life to that part of the town with live monthly music in the street.

Now let's hope that Town and Country rejects the proposed 6-7 story building right in front of the folk museum, Bougenvillea Clinic and next to Pussers. This would be a jarring eye sore to the scale of the rest of the historic area. Save

for future generations and visitors!!
