Commissioner of Police Reynell Frazer has made an appeal to the public for information surrounding Wednesday night’s shooting at Big Ben’s Superette in West End which left two people dead, pushing the number of murders this year to four.

At this stage, Police have no clear motive for the shooting.

“I am saddened that the Territory has to cope with two fatalities in one night and I am appealing to the public for information that could lead to the identity of the person or persons involved,” the Police Commissioner said in a statement issued by the Police Information Office.

Aaron “Sonny” Erickson, 39 years old, of Tortola and Winston “Bequia” Oliverre, 38 years old, of St. Vincent both died as a result of multiple gun shot wounds during the incident which occurred at about 10pm.

Oliverre was pronounced dead at the scene, while Erickson was transported to Peebles Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations revealed that the shots were fired near Erickson’s vehicle which was parked close to the superette. Contrary to initial reports, police said the gunman is believed to have been masked. According to police, the gunman fled the scene in Erickson’s vehicle, a black Chevy pick-up with the license plate PV14214, which was subsequently recovered.

Police are appealing to persons who may have been in the vicinity of Big Ben’s Superette, or who may have seen the black Chevy pick-up driving away from the scene or going eastbound on the  St. Francis Drake Highway to contact the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force with the information.

“We need your help and I can not overemphasize that need. Very little goes on in the BVI that is not witnessed by individuals in the community. Please share any information with me or someone in the community who can pass this information on to police,” Frazer said.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is offering a reward of $100,000 for any information that will lead to the identification and conviction of the person or persons involved in these murders or any of the Territory’s other unsolved murders.

The Anti-Drug and Violence Task Force within the RVIPF is heading this homicide investigation. Information can be reported to any officer within this unit by calling 494-3822 ext. 2716, 2717, 2718. Persons can also contact Commissioner Frazer directly at 494-2945 as well as any police officer with whom you feel comfortable or by calling the anonymous hotline 800-744-8477 or 800 -744-TIPS.
