The Cavaliers and Vikings Cricket Clubs have advanced to the next round of the Police Cricket Club tape ball cricket mini-series which began on Sunday, July 6 at the Greenland Ground in East End.

In the first two games, Vikings defeated Jamaica by 42 runs, while Cavaliers disposed of Grenada by 19 runs.

In game one, Vikings batted first and scored 126 for 6 in allotted 10 overs, with A. Richmond getting 59 and Govin Singh 34. There was one wicket each for M. Dean, D. McCoy and M. Belfield for Jamaica.

In reply, Jamaica reached 84 for 4 in their 10 overs, with Otis Chin top scoring with 17. For Vikings, Anil Mohabir and Govin Singh took one wicket each.

In game two, Cavaliers, batting first, scored 122 for 8 in the allotted 12 overs, with Teddy Nandkishore getting 25 and Dilchand George 22. For Grenada, Mervin Latouche took 3 wickets , while J. Thomas supported with two.

In reply, Grenada scored 102 for 5 in their 12 overs, with S. Peters scoring 37. In the bowling for Cavaliers, Vijay Jhappan took two wickets, while Rajesh Aktar bowled a tight spell of three overs for only nine runs.

The series will continue on Sunday, July 20, with Police taking on Jost Van Dyke in the first game. Following this, of the three winners in the first round, the team with the highest net run rate will automatically advance to the final, with the remaining two playing for the other place.

The tape ball cricket mini-series was organized by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Cricket Club as the beginning of a major fund raising drive aimed at enabling the team to travel to Antigua for the Sixth International Police Cricket Association Tournament in July 2009.

Sunday’s first game involving Police and Jost Van Dyke will begin at 12:00 noon.
