Elsa Meyers receiving a cheque from Minister Fahie
A 16-year-old student of the BVI Water Sports Center at Sea Cows Bay will be representing the Territory at a two-week training program at the Royal Yachting Association Center in the United Kingdom in August.

Elsa Meyers was presented with a cheque to fund her Sailing Instructors Course by the Minister of Education Culture and Sports, Andrew Fahie, during a simple ceremony at the Center on Monday.

Meyers, a Sailing Assistant Instructor, will be the first individual to represent the Virgin Islands at the Center in UK, opening doors for other students to follow.

The aspiring full-time, qualified sailing instructor acquired her skills at the tender age of seven under the tutelage of Colin Bramble, founder of the Water Sports Center.

During the presentation Minister Fahie noted that the presentation represents Government’s full support for the sport.

“Today is Elsa’s day. When they spoke with me, they never had to sell her, her success is a sign that we can invest in our children and this is really encouraging to see at your tender age you can accomplish such a high honour,” he appraised.

The Minister in his speech also commended Bramble and his staff on the good work that they have been doing, as several of the students trained at the school will move on to higher accomplishments.

Myers in expressing her gratitude to the Minister, said she is very thankful for the assistance received from the Government as it helps her to accomplish one of her goals in life and hopes that this opportunity will open the eyes of her fellow youth by showing them all the opportunities sailing and the sea can bring to their door steps.

“By completing my instructor’s course it will enable me to help my fellow youth. This qualification is where I start my climb up the ladder to my career,” she concluded.
