The duel between Bird Charm and Sweet Grass Creek went up a notch following Sunday’s pre-August festival meet, which saw Bird Charm singing his way to the finish line ahead of Sweet Grass Creek, who led for most of the way in the 7 Furlong matchup.

It was the second time the two horses faced each other in recent weeks. Last month both horses made their debut run and Sweet Grass Creek had the better of Bird Charm in a photo finish.

“They beat us the last time and they bragged about it, but this time we knew we just had to stay close and make a run at the finish,” said Axel Ritter who along with his brother Selwyn Christopher have been grooming Bird Charm.

Bird Charm also edged out third place finisher Captain Slew in a time of 1.31.3 to earn the $2500 purse.

However, at the end of the feature race, Sweet Grass Creek jockey complained of being fouled.

“They say that our jockey poked Sweet Grass Creek in the face on the turn down the stretch, but I ain’t see that, but these two horses will race again and when they do, we will know which horse is the better one.

Right now they both win one time,” said Ritter.

Crowd favourite, Brass Flash also avenged last month loss to Fabulous Cherokee in a winning time of 1.32.3 in the 7 Furlong encounter, also finishing ahead of Personal Hearing to claim the $2000 purse.

Rey Miestro Jr. continued his brilliant run by beating Carmelo Twist and Capital Charm in 1.19.4 in the $1600 purse 6 Furlong race. The other 6 Furlong, $1600 encounter was won by Shine in 1:22, who finished ahead of Golgo Girl and Arabian Dinner.

The only two-horse race of the day went 5 Furlongs that produced a win for Alani, who edged out Mia-Li to claim the $900 purse.
