Lady BravesThe Lady Braves continued the momentum picked up from their game four extra inning victory against Crushers to stage an astonishing comeback to clinch the 2008 women's Fast Pitch Softball Championship Series after being down 0-2.

The stage was set last Friday for an epic game five battle, but Lady Braves’ winning pitcher Adina “Sugar Bowl” Nibbs, who won last yer’s championship with the East Side Warriors shut out the Crushers 17-0.

“Everybody came wanting to win, but we were up to the challenge, the pitcher was ready and the team just stood behind her,” said Lady Braves’ captain, Perline Scatliffe.

Lady Braves’ runs came on 13 hits and left 5 runners on base. The Lady Braves playing rock-solid defence made no errors as they held the heavy-hitting Crushers to 4 hits.

Crushers had 10 errors and left 2 runners on base.

“I expected a tougher game from them. Historically we were always a batting team, but in the last four or five years we have not be practicing, but most of the hitting came from determination. We are happy about it and more so happy because the trash talk was huge coming into the game,” Scatliffe stated.

The losing pitcher was Alya Smith. Ivy Cameron went 3-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, Miranda Marie went 2-5 with a homer, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI and Patricia Hodge went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

“Our team play as a team for the first for a long time, said Lady Braves’ right-fielder, Laura Isaac, who made a couple of spectacular catches.

Lenia Smith Collected 2 of Crushers hits and Vashel Davis and Sheniqua Fahie had one each.

Meanwhile, in the men’s championship series, Hurricanes defied the odds to defeat Young Talents for the first series win for any Sunday and force a game-7 decider.

“We were flat tonight, but Sheep pitched a good game. We have to make some phone calls and import some other players and get them here this Friday,” said Young Talents’ manager, Terry “ Chino” Chinnery.

Young Talents’ manager, Arnold “Foxy” Baronville said he expected a pitching battle when the two forces collide this Friday at the Old Recreation Grounds.

“Who ever they bring in is of no concern to me and we expect to beat who ever comes. I know the fans would like to see Neville Smith against Allen Smith. Right now a decision has not been made about who is going to pitch for the Hurricanes, but we usually tend to give the fans what they want,” said Baronville.
