Man accused of stealing from employer Print E-mail

A Guyanese National residing at Purcell Estate and employed at the Road Town Whole Sale Trading LTD as a driver and delivery man, has been arrested & charged for stealing from the company.

The accused Nareshwar Raju Gurdat, 25, was taken into custody on the August 6 by detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and subsequently charged for 10 counts of theft.

His arrest followed a report which was made to the Police on the 9th July 2008, by a Senior Official of the Road Town Wholesale Trading Company LTD, alleging that the accused stole monies from the company, totalling $3024.08.

Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department, under the Command of Senior Detective Kendolph Bobb, conducted a financial investigation at the establishment. Based on certain documentary evidence collected, the accused was arrested and charged.

The accused appeared in court on Friday August 8, 2008 before Senior Magistrate Mrs. Valerie Stephens. He was represented by Attorney at Law Mrs. Mary-lou Creque. The charges were read to him, and he pleaded “Not Guilty”. He was granted bail in the sum of $8,000.00 signed with one surety, with the following conditions attached.

He is to surrender his passport to the Prosecution Department and report to Road Town Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The case was adjourned to the 01st September 2008 for trial.

Crown Counsel Ms. Chrystaline Benjamin appeared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
