Despite the seldom outburst of rains accompanied with the added heat from the hot summers sun, this did not dampened the highly spirited and energetic youngsters who had their eyes glued to their favorite cartoon animated box. The days event was off to a late start but was overlooked when the indomitable 4 Strong Band drew a much larger crowd as they played a wide variety of local, regional and international hits, offering entertainment to every member of the family. The competition kicked off into high gear with approximately eight registered entries, with first and second prizes in five categories. Demorne Jack, of Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) copped the Best Engineered prize along with the second fastest title with his Crab mobile, behind Road Town Wholesales cart, driven by Adya Maddox in first place but settled in second position for Best Engineered. Most Creative went to the Pipeliner, driven by Samrey Anthony of Yep, followed by the Spiderman in second place with 4-year-old Andre Wilson at the wheels, also topping the Best Overall Entry in the competitions. The Sponge Bob soapbox, driven by Andrew Mansanto, was dubbed the center of attraction, captured the best Raga title with its eye-catching drawings of animated cartoon characters proudly displayed at every handle of the coffin shaped design cart. The BVI Technical Vocational Institute was steered in second position by driver Travis Jack. The family oriented day was fun-filling with activities ranging from donkey rides, face painting, dunkin boothe, bounce-about and video games and the musical chair games which the adults gravitated with fond memories of their childhood days. According to YEPs Director Stacy Mather, the event was favored as a family past time in the BVI, by which our youth can gain much needed positive engagement. I am very pleased with the turn-out and support, this is a family function where you can socialize in the aspect of family hood. The first was also a success and we will continue on this path to bring families and friends together through this event, he added. Comments (0)
