When StandPoint arrived on the scene, Fire and Rescue officials had cordoned off the area while senior officials from the PWD were in the process of identifying the leak. Acting Director of the Public Works Department Dr. Drexel Glasgow after visiting the problem said that the leak was close to a distribution pump. He added that once they were notified of the leak, immediate action was taken to ensure the safety of staff. After the supply line was shut off, fire fighters used water from a nearby hydrant to flush out the leaked fuel into the sea via a ghut. A senior fire official said that several pads were used close to the fuel pump in the area of the spill and along the ghut while a boom was used at the end of the ghut leading into the sea to soak up as much of the fuel as possible. Also at the scene was Bevis Sylvester, Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum (
