The walk was co-ordinated by the Valley-Sound Lions Club. According to the CARICOM Secretariat, the observance of Caribbean Wellness Day was one of the decisions taken when the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government, deeply concerned about the physical, economic and social burdens caused by lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, obesity and cancer, met in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in September 2007 to design a plan of action to stop the epidemic of chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The Virgin Gorda Branch of the Red Cross was present in the event of any casualty and for distributing water along the route. Nurse Reid of the Nurse Iris ONeal Clinic for providing literature on promoting and sustaining healthy lifestyles, was also thanked. Participants have expressed an interest in the walk and the walk will be held on the second Saturday of each month. All are invited to join us as we walk to promote healthy living. Comments (0)
