After being forced to sit out last year’s Digicel Championship, the VI national team, Nature Boyz is set to make a comeback today against hometown favourites, St. Kitts in their first round, Group D encounter of the regional tournament.

The 23-member squad accompanied by five officials departed the Territory on Monday for the Sugar City following weeks of extensive preparations at the Greenland Recreation Ground in East End.

“I believe that we have a very good team with potent strikers. We will be looking to score early in our two group matches, but we are not going to take any team for granted,” said Avondale Williams, former national captain and now head coach. He said the toughest challenge will be against St. Kitts, but warned that Barbados can be equally dangerous given their recent 1-0 lost to the United States.

The VI and Barbados will clash  on Friday.

Nature Boyz will have the odds stacked against them since throughout the tournament, the home teams backed by large supporters have advance to the second round of the tournament.

It’s safe to say that Nature Boyz football has seen steady improvement over the last year and made a relatively impressive performance earlier this year which saw the VI narrowly missing the second round of the FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifiers.

“We just have to try and stay motivated throughout the tournament. There are people who really don’t see us winning or even making it past the second round. But we have good defense and we plan to attack strong, said team captain, Montgomery Butler.

He added that at the last time the VI faced St. Kitts, they lost 4-0.

“We know what they are capable of doing. They might be coming with a different team this time, but we are prepared for the challenge,” said Buttler.
