Band leader Caave Stoutt and members of Third Dimension captured in a jubilant mood
They have triumphed not only with the local fungi music but also with their own compositions of soca – the music of the Eastern Caribbean . At different times and in diverse settings, they have enchanted audiences with soul, funk, rock, jazz, disco and classical music.

Third Dimension Band (3D)  emerged on the Virgin Island’s musical scene in 2000, have demonstrated their acts at August Emancipation festivities, Christmas on Main Street, BVI Music Fest, Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta and  several music events staged in the Territory.

Recently, the band has taken a more aggressive approach to the entertainment market with the release of its single and music video “Gimme a Chance” which is currently being televised on Tempo. The high energy soca styled music video is soon to be duplicated based on a reggae ton remix of “Gimme a Chance”.

Unlike most band leaders, Caave Stoutt a degree holder in music from the Jacksonville University in Florida and a Music Educator at the Althea Scatliffe Primary, is versed at almost every instrument used to create music.

Stoutt’s interest for the arts landed him in the teaching profession since 1994 and has since been molding the minds of the future generation, giving them the opportunity to become part of different music genres.

“My aim is not to transform my students into musicians, I am here to help them think and enhance music. It is just one of the choices that can turn you into a well rounded person,” the music educator pointed out.

As band leader, his exceptional vocal talents served as the underpinning for the various vocalists who worked in the band. From the conception of the band, it is kept alive against all odds working presently with six additional members in distinct versions of the band.

With an already established reputation in the Caribbean , Stoutt is eyeing opportunities to attract a wider entertainment market outside the VI and is concentrating on promotions overseas.

“I am putting things in place to achieve that goal soon, the group consists of very talented musicians and we all have the same thing in common. We mix a lot of genres and had performed at several hot spots here in the VI,” Stoutt added.

Stoutt who inherited the musical genes from his father a well-known Fungi member, vividly recalled the memories of going out to play with him and his brother across the Territory.

Members of Third Dimension Band“My father always take us along, to play with him, I had an interest in percussion that is what got me captivated. From there I was interested in different instruments and my career path on becoming a civil engineer changed course and I ended up with music. My brother is now a doctor,” he added.

Despite his love for teaching the art of music, Stoutt admitted that he prefers to work with students at the primary level as they are easier to mould at a tender age comparing to students at the secondary level. “On the other hand, high schools are more developed in terms of having more established music programs. It’s easier to mould the younger students from the primary that is less establish in music. The primary is weaker so I stayed where the help is need,” he lamented.

According to Stoutt, he is focused on composing more songs to unveil the band’s true identity and make addition to their Festival 2008 hits- I Wanna Be, My Culture, and Touch the Sky.

“The key is to have more songs which will allow the band to have and maintain its own identity,” he concluded.

Musicianship, dedication, integrity and discipline are the hallmarks of 3D a band that has earned and retained the respect of the music industry, critics and general public over the past years. With a firm foundation, the band is ready to strike a chord in the wider Caribbean in its continued search for success.
