Defending champs, Steve Asson and Darwin Peters dominated the Tortola leg of the Highland Spring College Classic Series last Saturday – an event which saw a record setting participation -176 runners.

“I paced myself the right way how I was suppose to run in the beginning. In the second half of the race, I realised I was falling off a bit and decided to accelerate,” Hasson said after he breezed the 2-mile course in 11 minutes, 31.42 seconds.

Race director Stephanie Russ Penn, told the StandPoint she is extremely happy with the turnout and the support.

“It was a great start to the series, there were about 176 persons, which is an excellent turnout; one of the highest beginnings we have had in the last few years.

A couple of things I have to work on, maybe getting a more of the Primary School teams out and working on probably the secondary school.

I want to see them come out as a conditioning tool for the track and field season coming up in the spring,” Penn stated.
