The BVI Triathlon Federation will stage the ultimate BVI Triathlon event "The Steelman" now in its third year on Saturday, which will also showcase for the first time, a junior event.

“The Steelman is an Olympic distance event so you can race the same distances as the professionals. For solo competitors it is a true test of fitness, determination and steel. Entrants who just want to have fun can form a team and do one leg each. With a gorgeous swim, fast flat cycle, and shaded run, the Steelman is the finest course in the Virgin Islands,” said Yegane Guley, race organiser.

The race is based on Beef Island and starts at beautiful Well Bay beach at 3pm with a 1500 metre swim. The 40k road bike section involves two laps from Beef Island through East End to the Community College and back followed by two fast loops of Beef Island. The 10k run starts and finishes near D'Best Cup on Beef Island and comprises of two laps to Minine's nursery.

“This is the only event with a late afternoon start,” added Richard White, event coordinator, “So the run is in the cool of the evening, and it means competitors can wind down with a delicious post race BBQ and party as reward for their valiant efforts.”

This year will feature an U16 event for juniors starting at Well Bay Beach at 2pm and finishing before the main event.

“The kids enthusiasm is fantastic," said Cathryn Hempel junior event organizer.

They are so excited about this new event."

According to race organisors, people of all abilities can take part, either individually or as part of a team effort. Senior and junior competitors can sign up at the Tortola Sports Club between 6pm and 7pm on Friday, October 10 where there will be a full course briefing.
