A 22- year-old Disc Jockey, who was charged with the fatal stabbing of her common- law husband, is expected to reappear in the
Magistrate Court
on October 27, when her case will be brought before the court for a report.

Clad in a black outfit, Shonovia Thomas, who is charged with murder of Archie “Basha” Todman, took to the stand last Monday. She was represented by her attorney, Steven Daniels of Verna Malone and Company. Thomas was remanded to prison after a short hearing, which saw a large turn out of friends and family members who openly vented their anger in the court yard arguing a case of self defense. A representative of the Family Support Group was also present and tried to comfort Thomas’ mother as she cried openly.

A section of the apartment corndoned off as police combed the area for possible evidence after the fatal stabbing of Archie ‘Basha’ Todman which occurred in front of his Huntums Ghut apartment on October 2.According to Daniels, there is evidence of a medical certificate from Peebles Hospital, which indicated that his client was assaulted prior to the night in question that resulted in soft tissues caused by injuries she received about her body.

“The burden is now on the prosecution who has to rebut that,” said Daniels.

It is alleged that Todman, a truck driver and construction worker of Huntums Ghut, was stabbed with a steel point ‘fish tail’ styling comb during a domestic dispute at approximately 3:00 am, on October 2, outside the his apartment.  He was taken to the Peebles Hospital where efforts to resuscitate him proved futile.

An autopsy was performed and a preliminary report revealed that the stab wound to the chest severed a main artery.

Thomas was arrested when she turned up at the hospital following the incident. Meanwhile, relatives and friends are still struggling to come to grips with the death of Todman who they described as a friendly and jovial person.

“He will be missed, it is very sad that he had to go like this. I wasn’t looking for him to go this way, but God knows everything best,” added one of his traumatised neighbour
