Fire-fighters were first summoned to
Delma Maduro, CEO of Roadtown Wholesale said that the building was evacuated and the fire service summoned as a precautionary measure, adding that the origin of the smoke had been from an electrical component. The store was closed for approximately 30 minutes, while firefighters and electrical engineers combed the building. A source explained that the problem stemmed from a malfunctioning shaft shield of an air conditioning unit. A few hours later, the Fire and Rescue Service Department were again summoned, this time answering a call from Qwomar Trading Limited on
Thick plumes of smoke bellowed skyward from a stand-by generator located at the back of Complex 1, but firemen quickly brought the fire under control. The fire resulted in a prolong period of electricity outage to the building forcing the closure of several offices, including Qwomar Trading. The power disruption also caused the early closure of StandPoint and Printrite offices which are housed in the adjacent Complex 2 building.
