Hurricane Omar had positioned itself to cause major damage as it roared past the Virgin Islands, however, by Thursday morning residents breathed a collective sigh of relief to learn that weather system barely brushed the Territory.

At 5:00 am last Thursday, the National Emergency Operations Center issued the “All Clear” for the Territory.

“We thank God that the Territory has been spared the impact of a dangerous Category 3 hurricane,” said Deputy Governor, Inez Archibald during a radio address.

The hurricane caused minor flood conditions at Beef Island and some areas of Western Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada.

Throughout the Territory, rock fall, debris and broken trees were evident. StandPoint staff roamed several areas of Tortola before, during and after the weather system and captured the following images.
