ImageWhat’s the point of expressing bewilderment at the state of violent crime increase in these islands if we are not prepared to do something about it? Gun crimes seem to have gone out of control. Ninety percent of these types of criminal activity have gone as mysteries. No one knows who done it.

No one is caught. In the process, innocent victims have lost their lives; innocent children are left motherless and fatherless. Parents, siblings, friends and relatives all left to mourn with a big question mark on their sad features. Why did it have to be my son, my brother, my father, my sister, my daughter? Why?

It is now as if everyone is at the mercy of those with weapons of steel. These gun-toting angels of death are also somebody’s son, brother, father, or whatever the relationship may be.

These slick shooters who seem to have decided the value and worth of human life in terms of dollars need to get back to the understanding that life is priceless. They need to understand that crime does pay only for a little while, and those who live by the piece of steel, sooner, rather than later, die by the piece of steel.

For it is written that man should not live by bread alone. A briefcase full of dough, ‘bling bling’ hanging from neck to finger and a fancy top of the brand vehicle, are cheap ways to spend the life God gave you.

There is more power in helping people to live life rather than in taking life. As much as we may want to consider such persons with disdain, we need to pray for them to change from their wicked ways.

After all, if the authourities can’t catch them we might as well turn to the one sure thing that anyone can do: pray for them to turn themselves in by turning away from the work they are doing now, and get a better, more fulfilling occupation. Some of the most influential persons who inspire others are those who have made dramatic changes from evil to good.

From being lost in the underground world of nefarious living, to finding new life and hope in a more salubrious aspiration.

I sometimes watch Judge Greg Mathis on day-time TV and he comes on with attitude. He boasts of being a reformed gangster by saying he’s gone from being in jail, to being a judge in 15 years. Boys sometimes go off on the wrong track, but they can find their way back to those who love them. It takes will and determination to do that, and no doubt, a mother or some loved-one, whose prayers helped him to turn his life around. God answers prayers when we pray genuinely for others who need our prayers. The criminals are not going to stop unless God stops them. As a Christian society we need to establish a prayer schedule, not for a public display of piety, but for the spirit of God to speak to the hearts, and minds of those who engage in criminal behavior that hurts innocent people.

While the authourities are working on doing their part in ridding the community of this terror, individuals and groups of Christ-minded people can work prayerfully, through faith and conquer the spirit that has been engaging in the wanton spilling of innocent blood. People, take heed.

The cycle must be broken. It can be broken with faith, unity, and sincerity. We must become our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper if we want to chase the angels of death back from whence they came.

The posture of fear and helplessness that pervades society at times like these only feed the monster. We need to see more protests at funerals for victims of gun violence. People should demonstrate their disgust with this gun violence that is undermining the positive development of our country.

We need people to come together in solidarity against violence; be it domestic violence, gun violence, or violent incidents that are not seen with the naked eye. The cycle must be broken. THE VIOLENCE MUST STOP.
