It is a case of déjà vu because we had the same occurrence in 2006, revealed the Hospitals Nursing Director, Norma Benjamin, in an invited comment to this newspaper. However, interestingly, as in 2006, there was a birth on Tuesday, January 2. Benjamin opined that the no births on the days mentioned above are not unusual because in some instances there are no baby deliveries for as much as three days. According to the director, such a trend is possible due to the fact that quite a few locals go overseas to have their babies. She said in 2005, the number of babies delivered was 286, last year the number decreased to 263, and although 2007 figure is not available as yet, Benjamin stated she does not believe the figure will hit the 300 mark.
