Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, has updated members of the House of Assembly on his recent participation in the Ninth Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) Meeting held at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London from December 3 through December 5.

Speaking at the Fourth Sitting of the First Session of the First House of Assembly on December 27, the Premier said a wide range of matters were discussed during this year’s OTCC meeting. He also agreed to circulate copies of the minutes to the members.

The Premier said matters discussed during the OTCC meeting included the United Kingdom’s action plan for combating international corruption, constitutional modernisation, international tax cooperation, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s harmful tax practices initiatives, and climate change.

“All in all, the trip was a most useful one and the delegation was pleased with the results,” the Premier reported, while thanking the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London for its hospitality in addition to handling all of the conference arrangements.

The Premier’s delegation to the Ninth OTCC Meeting included Territorial-At-Large Representative Honourable Vernon E. Malone, Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Rosalie Adams, Assistant Secretary for Foreign Affairs in the Premier’s Office Najan Christopher, and Head of the BVI London Office Dawn Smith.

His Excellency the Governor David Pearey also attended the Ninth OTCC Meeting in London. Senior UK Government officials attending the meeting included the Under Secretary of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Honourable Meg Munn, who is also the Minister responsible for the overseas territories.

The annual OTCC meeting provides Premiers, Chief Ministers, and other heads of government of the overseas territories an opportunity to meet and consult with ministers of the British Government.
