Cabinet has approved the appointment of nine individuals to serve as executive members of British Virgin Islands Tourist Board for a four-year period effective February 1, 2008.

At its meeting last week Cabinet agreed to appoint Terrance Ford to serve as acting chairman of the board. Premier and Minister for Tourism Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE will designate an acting deputy chairman in the near future.

Other newly appointed executive members of the Tourist Board include Melvin Clifton, Lemuel Smith, Samuel Henry, and Charles Tobias.

They are joined by Bellencita Creque, Julia Dawson Christopher, Nelda Brydon, and Sharon Flax-Mars.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Rosalie Adams was appointed to serve as an ex-officio member.

Among other duties, the executive body of the BVI Tourist Board is to promote, foster, and develop the tourist trade of the Virgin Islands and to ensure the sector’s efficiency. It is also to advise on the development of amenities that will enhance the Territory’s standing as a holiday destination. The Tourist Board (Amendment) Act 1996 provides for a membership of up to 11 persons to serve for a period of up to four years.

The persons appointed to the Board are involved in various areas of the British Virgin Islands’ tourism industry.
