The Archives Unit is seeking information about past and present BVI boat captains and shipwrights.

Chief Records Management Officer Verna Penn Moll is appealing to relatives, friends and acquaintances to call in with information such as dates of birth, death, and other interested details about local captains and shipwrights. She said that the information will be entered into a database of local heroes.

Moll said that the database of local heroes is one of several which the Archives Unit is building on subjects of national historical significance. “This month being Black History Month, the Unit is focusing on Virgin Islands boat captains and shipwrights,” she said.

Persons with information are asked to contact the Archives Unit at 494-3701 ext. 2365 or 3044.

The Archives Unit is part of the Deputy Governor’s Office. It is located upstairs the Burhym Building on Wickham’s Cay 1.

What’s the point of expressing bewilderment at the state of violent crime increase in these islands if we are not prepared to do something about it? Gun crimes seem to have gone out of control. Ninety percent of these types of criminal activity have gone as mysteries. No one knows who done it.
