The late H.L. Stoutt

The celebration will begin with a parade starting at 9:00 a.m. from the House of Assembly along Fishlock Road and onto Waterfront Drive and then to the Palm Grove Park where a programme featuring various guest speakers, schools, HLSCC, and the H.L. Stoutt Commemorative Choir, among others, will present drama and song in remembrance of H. Lavity Stoutt.

According to H.L. Stoutt Commemorative Committee Member, Gwendolyn Rubaine, this year the committee’s aim is to raise awareness and help to preserve the legacy of the late Chief Minister, H. Lavity Stoutt.   

 Rubaine stated that this year the celebrations will be held in Road Town to make it more nationalistic, more centrally located and more accessible to the general public.   “The Committee has enlisted the support of the Government through the Ministry of Education and Culture, legislators, churches, civic groups and organizations to attend and participate in the parade,” she added. 

The Committee would especially like to invite the public to come out and participate in the parade and observe the ceremony as this is the first year it is being held in Road Town . 

The Committee looks forward with great anticipation to the Virgin Islands community coming together to observe and celebrate this holiday in honour of the “Father of the modern BVI” H. Lavity Stoutt.

H. Lavity Stoutt became the Territory’s first Chief Minister in 1967. He died in office on May 10, 1995 and at the time was the Territory’s longest serving legislator.
