A massive search and rescue operation launched in the Virgin Islands to locate the manager of the Marina Cay was called off after varying efforts failed to locate the man, who was reported missing on March 11 by his wife.

Hopes of finding Jim Logie, a UK citizen residing in the Virgin Islands, faded when his capsized boat was recovered eight miles off Jost Van Dyke, the day after he was reported missing.

Logie’s employer, Charles Tobias, who is the Chairman of Pussers, said the most logical conclusion following an extensive sea and land search is that Logie’s body may never be recovered.

The Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR), the US Coast Guard helicopter and Police Marine Unit, collaborated with friends and relatives of Logie in the search effort.

This is the second incident of this nature in as many weeks to occur in the Territory.

Last month, local officials called off a search for Asian American, Benjamin Wu after it was believed that he might have slipped into the sea while hiking along a traitorous terrain between Long Bay and Smugglers Cove.

Wu’s body was also never recovered.

Logie was employed with Marina Cay five years ago and Tobias described him as a considerate person, who always had his employees’ interest at heart.

“He always looked out for the welfare of his employees and was very kind to them. We now have to plug a huge gap left in his absence,” Tobias stated.

Tobais speculated that while it is unclear what caused the boat to turn turtle, it could have been as a result of whales, which have migrated to the Virgin Islands.

He also said that Logie’s boat was equipped with life jackets and was also fitted with flotation cushions, but based on what occurred, none of the items were utilised.

According to the police information office, on February 11 at about 5:39 p.m. Alison Logie of Marina Cay reported to police that her husband, Jim Logie had been missing.

Initially, Tobias had said family and friends have not given up hope of finding Logie alive, despite the discovery of his capsized boat.

Logie was described as a strong and determined man, with exceptional swimming skills having represented Scotland at swimming meets several years ago.

Logie’s wife had told police that her husband left on a fishing trip about 10:00 a.m. and was expected back about 2:00 p.m., but never returned.

According to police, information suggests that Logie was last seen heading in the direction of Virgin Gorda for the fishing trip.

He sailed a white hull Century power boat with a black canopy named “ONE LAST CAST” which was fitted with an 80-horse power Yamaha outboard engine, police stated.

The Coast Guard reported that the 20-foot fishing vessel was found overturned about seven miles north of Jost Van Dyke

A Coast Guard official had disclosed that searches were conducted on several islands including, Norman Island, Virgin Gorda, Peter Island, Jost Van Dyke, the Dogs, Ginger Island, Cooper Island, Round Rock, Fallen Jerusalem, Round Rock, Great Thatch Island and Tobago.
Tobias stated that a massive land search scanned desolate tracts on Camanoe and other nearby islands for any signs of the missing manager.

Jim and his wife Alison are citizens of the United Kingdom and had been living in the Virgin Islands for the past eight years.

He has two children.

What’s the point of expressing bewilderment at the state of violent crime increase in these islands if we are not prepared to do something about it? Gun crimes seem to have gone out of control. Ninety percent of these types of criminal activity have gone as mysteries. No one knows who done it.
