Nine horses from St. Thomas will be on the race card for the first horseracing meet for 2008 at the Little ‘A’ Race Track on Sunday, March 2 and President of the Horse Owners’ Association Perry Penn promises it is going to be a wild ride.

“We wanted to make it more appealing to the fans by having Actspectation run, but unfortunately he has developed a foot injury,” revealed Penn in a telephone interview with the Standpoint.

But he noted that other horses in the L&B Stables owned by Lettie Hodge – who is past president herself – are on the race card.

“I must thank Lettie for that decision because I think she has a passion for continuing the sport she loves so much,” opined Penn.

Last year, L&B Stables withdrew its horses from competitive racing under controversy after it was alleged that Actspectation was drugged during a featured race.

Since then the Association has been struggling to compile a worthwhile race card to attract fans – since L&B Stables owned most of the local horses.

The Horse Owners’ President is therefore appealing to fans to come out and support the races.

“Act will be back soon,” he added, “But in the meanwhile we have a competitive and appealing race card. So just come out and have some fun,” Penn said encouragingly.

Below is the proposed race card:
