Silk Greenery offers it all for home decor
St. Thomas - For Toni Jackson, owner of Silk Greenery, her start came about from an encounter most homeowners experience. “I wanted to start a business, but I didn’t know what yet,” Jackson said.
Jackson said she loved decorating her home with ferns, but they kept dying. Tired of this recurrence, she decided to buy an artificial fern. Surprisingly, this is what sparked Jackson’s interest in selling what the industry now calls ‘permanent botanicals.’
Silk Greenery, located in Fort Mylner Shopping Centre, has been in business for the past 20 years, selling high quality artificial plants. Jackson said her plants are lifelike. Unlike real plants, these do not need water or much care and add a touch of beauty to any home decor.
Besides plants, Silk Greenery sells furniture and other home accessories. The store also serves the needs of several commercial clients, including hotels and offices.
“I’m selling more furniture now than before. Throughout the years, I have been adding accessory pieces, and people keep asking for more, so before I knew it, I got into the furniture business,” Jackson explained.
The store delivers items to your location, without any charge and also does shipping to the British Virgin Islands.
“People can purchase right off the floor, and we deliver to the boats. There’s no cost for that.”
Jackson also provides what she calls interior plantscaping – using artificial plants to decorate a room – and interior design services for a fee.
Silk Greenery’s biggest sale is its Anniversary Sale, which takes place in the summer months. Throughout the year, the store does ‘Scratch & Dent Sales,’ where furniture that has been scratched or dented, are on sale at a discounted price.
“People have really responded to those (sales),” Jackson said. The next ‘Scratch & Dent sale’ is scheduled for some time in February.
Silk Greenery is opened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
