Islanders, Wolues snatch Victory
League leaders Islanders and second placers Wolues, completed the first round of the BVI Football Association National League with victories over Lucian Stars and the Haitian Stars, respectively.
Lucian Stars held the Islanders at 0-0 for 64 minutes, before Ray Phillip took a pass from Avondale “Avon” Williams to go up 1-0. Lucian Stars continued pressuring Islanders but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Some 10 minutes after feeding Phillip, Williams scored the final goal in the 2-0 victory, sending the Islanders to a 9-0 record at the end of the first round.
Will Pridfeon had a hat trick in leading the Wolues through a 5-1 triumph over winless Haitian Stars, who fell to 0-9. Boed Van Kjug’s score (18) was sandwiched between Pridfeon hat trick, with scores in the 12, 22 and 69th minute of play, as they raced to a 3-0 halftime edge. James Sherman (92) rounded out Wolues’ scoring.
Haitian Stars’ James St. Amie (57) continues to be the only player on the squad finding the nets.
Shanon Lawrence (31) had the game’s lone score during the Panthers 1-0 victory over Old Madrid for the Panthers’ third victory.
On Virgin Gorda, Sugar Boys led VG United 3-0 five minutes into the second half, when a power failure interrupted play. The match will be replayed in its entirety on Sunday in Virgin Gorda. The Lucian Stars vs One Love match was also affected and has been rescheduled for Saturday’s first match on Tortola.
