With the repairs to the roads in Cane Garden Bay (CGB) starting prior to the recently concluded Music Festival, At-Large Candidate Archibald Christian is questioning the administration’s openness as it relates to transparency on finances.

At the recent NDP Tent Meeting, Christian stated his position, given the fact that the contract for the project was inked in February - at least four months before the start of the rehabilitative works.

“There probably was some issue with respect to company BVI Paving,” Christian said.  BVI Paving was contracted to undertake the road repairs. According to Christian, “If you sign a contract for work to commence, then it should commence shortly after.”

The At - Large Candidate drew reference to the fact that several questions were raised even in the pro-government circles as to the delay in the start of the project, and there were several excuses that were forthcoming.

These answers, he said, must be looked at carefully given that it is tax-payers money involved. He said that stakeholders, in the plethora of excuses given, were told on one occasion that they were waiting on the Public Works Ministry and on other occasions were simply told, “we are waiting for certain things to be in place.”

According to Christian, the contractor did not get any money or any deposits; therefore, the works could not commence.

He pointed out also that the same company is owed money for works done in Virgin Gorda. “My impression is that the reason for the work being held up for so long is that there was no deposit made for the road project.”
