The Lambert Resort: Glory Days Still Ahead

There are sections of the world that make special provisions for tourists and the BVI is just one such place. When selling to tourists there are many different niche markets and one such is the vacationer that is looking to simply relax in a secluded paradise getaway.

The BVI was recently named as having some of the most relaxing beaches in the world and while today the Lambert Beach Resort is but a shadow of its former self, the proprietors insist that the glory days are not behind but it is still in the future.

Pristine property is an asset that can always be capitalised on and according to one of the Directors of the company Mr. Victor Martac; this is one of the primary reasons that the vacation spot will make a comeback.

The property was acquired some 24 years ago and was once called the Elizabeth Beach Resort. Now the Lambert Beach Resort and constructed in phases, it is a vacation setting with all the necessary facilities nestled in a lush tropical ambience sloping towards the sea to one of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches.

Lined with palm trees, the beachfront area stretch for almost half a mile of pristine beach and will weather any financial storm.

Sold to a local buyer in 2006, the dream did not materialise as was planned and the Global Financial Crisis did nothing to help, resulting in the entity being faced with liquidation.

“We will put it back in place …we will make it better than before” - Director

Following a short blissful run, the beach resort while being operated by local hands began to experience financial problems and soon took a turn for the worse when the debts could not be paid, thus inevitable liquidation resulted.

Though there has been some reclamation done, the resort is still a long way from where the new owners plan to have it.

This, however, has not daunted the original owners as they have decided to retake the property and pump a significant investment into it, which would see the resort’s glory days ahead.

Speaking with this newspaper, Martac said that loans are almost finalised and in a matter of weeks when the liquidation process is completed, they will have the final go ahead to continue the rebuilding process.

The owners are gearing to replace some of the villas with Condos as well as to re-furbish the beach front and other properties including the world class restaurant that it once boasted.

Built on a sprawling scenic landscape, the hotel has the largest pool on the island with some 5,000 square feet of surface water space for those that would want to take a break from the Caribbean Sea and swim up to the bar, which will soon be operational again.

Even in its current state, when a vacationer enters the Lambert Resort, the trek-in re-emphasises the notion that it is truly an island paradise getaway, which Martac said is one of the primary features of the Resort.

“We will put it back in place …we will make it better than before,” Martac confidently asserted.

Unlike the typical hotel, which is generally a layer of rooms, the Lambert Resort offers a true Caribbean getaway with beachfront villas that would appeal to the celebrity who is looking to hideaway from the paparazzi or the honeymooning couple looking for their moments of privacy before being thrust back into the world of work.

In accordance with the renewed innovations that will be back in place at Lambert, the resort will once again be able to offer the plethora of water sports and other activities that were once available, such as sailing, one of the resort's Hobie Cats, kayaking, fishing, boogie boarding along the beach and horseback riding.

Already there has been significant progress with one of the key highlights of the resort, namely its botanical array with grounds men working feverishly on a daily basis to return the atmosphere to its once famous garden allure.

According to the Director, within a matter of weeks, they will commence with the full fledge investments and soon the resort will once again be the talk of Tortola. He anticipates that through strategic marketing campaigns, the ruined reputation of the resort will be repaired.
