Students of the BVI Seventh Day Adventist School in Sea Cows Bay were anxious as members of Follow The Movement (FTM) arrived at the school last Friday to impart knowledge and advice ahead of the group’s top 7@7 Award Show set for March 6 at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall. FTM was accompanied by Minister of Education, Andrew Fahie and Dr. Ronald McAnaney of the Let’s Talk about Sex radio and television show. President of FTM, DJ Craig Lake outlined the objectives of FTM and its intentions to involve more youths in positive activities. Vice-President of FTM, Raul "Jougo" Sprauve also outlined the group’s intentions and encouraged students to be good learners and always attentive to teachers. Minister Fahie commended FTM for taking the messages to schools on Tortola and Virgin Gorda. He told students that they should not let anyone tell them they cannot make it in life. He noted that there is employment in the music industry and while not everyone can sing, others can become sound engineers, stage managers or take up other positions. The Minister also urged students to fulfill their purpose in life and guard against pre-set conditions for success. He revealed that success is not guaranteed by being a BVIslander or being the most popular person in school. “Those days are over,” Minister Fahie stated. The school tour also included a song from the school group entitled ‘Love’ by Kirk Franklin and a lively poem titled ‘Detrimental to my success’. The third edition of the Top 7 @ 7 Award will be featuring homegrown island pop sensation Iyaz and reggae fusion singer and rapper Sean Kingstown. Iyaz created quite a stir on local and international airwaves with his latest hit “Replay” while Kingstown is well known for his debut number 1 single “Beautiful Girls”. This year’s award will see some 13 groups receiving awards in 26 categories including Best Lyrics, Best Creative Soong, Best Song, Best Rookie Group. The groups up for awards include, Showtime Band, Extreme Band, Higher Level, Bria Smith, Country Boyz, CB4 Lyfe and Moneia. Comments (0) |
