Police officers of all ranks joined the Road Town Methodist Church congregation last Sunday to open a week of activities to mark this year’s Police Week celebrations, which are geared towards creating opportunities to strengthen police and community ties. Under the theme ‘Bridging the gap through partnerships in a changing society”, the RVIPF started a week of activities with a service on Sunday to mark its 43rd year of service to the people of the Virgin Islands. At the service, Commissioner of Police Reynell Frazer used the opportunity to encourage those gathered to unite in the fight against crime. He spoke, too of the role of the church in continuing to help to direct the youth into positive activities. During his remarks, the Commissioner commemorated the eight officers who died in service since the Force was first established in 1968. Wreaths were later laid on the Following the service, members of the Force visited the Adina Donovan Home and made a presentation of much needed chairs. Events to mark Police Week include a 20/20 Wilson Sylvester and Gregory Alleyne Memorial Cricket Match which was held at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College on Monday evening. A football match was played at Virgin Gorda Playing Field on Tuesday. A softball re-match is planned between the RVIPF and HM Customs on Wednesday night at 6pm at the Old Recreation Ground. On Friday, a Variety Show will be held at the Elmore Stoutt High School at 7pm, while a Junior Pool tournament is scheduled for Thursday at the Road Town Police Station.
